Letur-Lefr Review Pt. 2

Upon closer inspection, I’ve come to realize a few things.

First thing: I think I love the EP. I’ve listened to it on repeat for the past few hours. Everytime I tell myself “Okay, take a break. This is like the 10th time.. slow down, bitch.” But then I just start craving it again, and the cycle repeats. It’s fun and fast paced and I can go to a party with it and be like “HEY I CAN PLAY MY OWN MUSIC THIS TIME CAUSE THE FROOSH MADE PARTY MUSIC.”

Second thing: When has John ever made solo work that was for anyone else but himself? He does what he wants and this is what he wanted to do this time. It’s not his “New Sound”… God no! It’s just another one of his experiments, and just happens to be exceedingly different from his past 11 albums.

Thing Three: It’s not like he’s invented a new form of music or anything, but I think if he was going for that realm, he did a pretty damn good job infusing his own style with something he’s never touched on before. I mean, I heard his vocals and melodies and guitar solos! He’s very smart with his music. Very smart.

‘Nother Thing: This album should only be listened to with headphones. Seriously.

Last thing: As a whole, I had fun listening to it, because you can tell he had fun making it.

On another note, Josh Klinghoffer is just about the cutest little thing ever. I’m really enjoying the music he shares in his blog posts on the Chili’s website. I know it’s cheesy to say, but he’s such a real guy, you know? Such a smart, sweet guy.

And basically had a religious experience. I’ve been feeling pretty indifferent about the album since the 30 second previews came out (then the full length track of “Glowe” then the one minute versions, then a few days later, the whole damn thing!) And Now that I’ve heard it… well… I sort of fucking love it, but at the same time, I’m very fucking confused by it. Strangest musical experience I’ve ever had. I absolutely head over heals love and idolize this man, and expect nothing but the best from him. And I definitely would not call this his best, but not his worst either. It’s… well, it’s different, obviously.

I think the biggest problem for us Froosh fans is that we hold this man up on a big ass pedestal, and we don’t quite know how to react during the rare occasions when he releases new music. It’s a very important time for us, and we build it up like a goddamn presidential election or something.

Anyway, stripping away all I know and feel about John Anthony (mothafuckin’) Frusciante, I’d say that this album is extremely cohesive, and the tracks flow seamlessly from one to another. The ones I’ve enjoyed most are “In Your Eyes”, “Glowe”, and surprisingly “FM” (and you know you were surprised by JF doing a track like that too, don’t lie). I really wanted to love “In My Light”, but after that first minute, I just lost my connection to it. Maybe it’ll take a few listens to really get into… who knows.

PS. I’d just like to add that I am so very thankful he is still making music. Whatever it may be, it’s here and we are able to share and experience it with him. That’s an AMAZING thing. Thank god for this man.

PPS. Can’t wait for PBX… I bet it’ll be fucking insane. Hoping for less falsetto and more guitar solos. ;]
